My Top 5 Movies (Currently)
Top 5 Movies:
Each are uniquely different and have shaped me in a variety of ways.
1. “Interstellar”
I chose “Interstellar” because of the power it exhibits to bend your mind to think a distinct way. It was also the very first Christopher Nolan movie I watched. It just stuck with me, and I have watched it many times since then. Plus, what’s not to like about Matthew McConaughey? “Interstellar” taught me that films can be tools to influence how people think—to make them ponder and sincerely think. Being able to impact a person in this way is such a powerful tool, and I want to utilize that power in order to bring people closer to God and see Him for who He truly is.
2.“Inside Out 2”
“Inside Out 2” impacted me a lot, because I felt like I understood how Riley felt in a way that I had never felt in a movie previously. Even though I am not a girl, I still felt what Riley went through in the movie in a more tangible way than I have in the past. As C. S. Lewis says, “We read to know that we are not alone.” I would also say that we watch to know that we are not alone. “Inside Out 2” showed me that film can be a tool to comfort people. In addition to comfort, film has the power to convict. “Inside Out 2” convicted me of a lot of things that I have experienced and also feared.
3.“Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse”
The sheer artsy creativity is what I love most about “Spider-Man into the Spider-Verse.” I love the passion-packed technique of graffiti, mixed with the look of a comic book. When I saw that they took that niche-animated-look and made a beautiful movie out of it, I simply had to love it. “Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse” showed me that a movie doesn’t have to be pristine and smoothed-out on the edges in order to be beautiful. I would say this is one of the most beautiful movies I have ever seen, and its because it doesn’t follow the norm. It has grit.
4.“Elvis”
What I admire about “Elvis” is how Baz Lurhmann directed it. It showed me the power of different camera techniques as well as powerful transitions between scenes. It also displayed how much the speed of the scene can impact how the viewer sees or perceives the message. Every detail matters.
5.“Dune”
Last but not least, “Dune.” Everything about Dune feels rare and special simply because of how the Dune universe is portrayed. Watching Dune, I am transported into a different world, time and place—all brought about by the unique design and attention to detail. It is not easy to create other worlds and make them look realistic and authentic, but Dune achieves it. The cinematography is excellent, and the film is stunningly beautiful.
